The Sophia City Fire Department just added two new EMS units to its fleet, bringing faster emergency medical response to the citizens of Sophia and the surrounding area.
Sophia’s firefighters placed their new ambulances into service at 10 am on April 14th and were out on their first emergency call by 10:30 the same morning.
Chief Mark Stiefer says the department is always at the community’s service:
“Our biggest thing we do here is we help our community in their time of need, you know, whether it be fire or whether it be car wrecks, whether it be someone lost, someone hurt, you know, we’re always there. A phone call away: 911.”
Chief Stiefer says the department has evolved to meet the community’s needs. They started out responding only to fires, but have since expanded to handle more emergencies, like car accidents, and can now properly address the community’s medical emergencies.
Assistant Chief Thomas Trent says the new units will help the department’s response capabilities.
“We’ve offered first responder response since 2017, and we decided we wanted to give the community a little bit more. So we decided to put in two ambulances to just offer a little bit more response and give a better peace of mind knowing they have two more agencies in the area to help out when needed.”
In an emergency where every second counts, having a reliable ambulance service close by can make all the difference. Stiefer and his fellow firefighters are proud to help make their community just a little safer:
“It feels pretty good, you know, to know that we can do more for our community. We can be there in their time of need. You know that that’s the biggest thing is the more we can do, the more we can offer our community, the better our community is, the safer it is.”
In case of an emergency, always dial 911. You can’t always prevent emergencies, but the citizens of Sophia can rest a little easier knowing help is just down the road.
