Fayette County Humane Society announces it will no longer operate under contract with Fayette County Commission

Oak Hill, WV (WOAY)-In an emotional statement, the Fayette County Humane Society (FCHS) revealed it will no longer operate under contract with the Fayette County Commission.

FCHS cites what it calls years of corruption, lies, and neglect as the reason for the decision to cut ties.

The move follows FCHS making a public statement on Facebook on September 3, highlighting issues between the shelter and the County Commission.

The commission responded to the shelter’s post later the same day, denying the claims.

In their response, commissioners announced an audit is underway of the shelter’s finances, and they scheduled a public meeting for September 18 to address these issues.

In Friday’s announcement on their official Facebook page, FCHS says it “cannot and will not allow our mission or reputation to be destroyed at the hands of corruption, lies, and neglect.”

However, they say, make no mistake, as their work isn’t ending.

The Humane Society is committed to continuing its efforts to rescue, protect, and advocate for animals in need.

However, they now face the challenge of finding a new facility to call home and sustaining their staff without county support.

They’re asking the community to rally behind them through donations.
