It was a great week across Southern West Virginia. Mostly sunny skies and a very dry atmosphere was the name of the game for us over the past week, and a lot of that is going to continue into the next week. The European model is hinting that we could have some showers form across some of our area for Saturday and then again on Tuesday. Although right now, that is just the European model showing that, and others show us staying completely dry.

Based on the European model, not a lot of rain will fall even if we get some areas that do receive rain over the next 7 days. Mainly a tenth of an inch of rain, with locally higher amounts for areas that receive multiple rounds of these showers.

Any rain that we do end up getting across Southern West Virginia will be very beneficial, as we are starting to get further into a drought. Moderate drought now includes most of Tazewell County as well as Southern McDowell County; everywhere else in the yellow is abnormally dry. The severe drought, though, is not too far out, encompassing an area from Roanoke to Harrisonburg, VA.

Looking over the next 7 days, there are not a lot of rain chances, and hopefully the chances we do get can provide some slight drought relief… even a half-inch to an inch will work wonders for us. Even looking at the extended forecast, the next 8-14 days look fairly warm as well.
