OAK HILL, WV (WOAY) – There were plenty of blue skies and pleasant temperatures around the region this afternoon. The West Virginia 511 cameras showed that any clouds were very widely scattered, with most areas seeing wall-to-wall sunshine. The dry air allowed temperatures to rebound nicely after a cool start, and they’ll fall almost as quickly tonight. Lows will be in the lower to middle 50s, with upper 40s in the usual colder spots.

Tomorrow, a warm-up begins, as highs will rise into the 80s each day through Sunday. At first, dry weather will continue to be the main feature of the forecast, but a system will approach the area on Saturday night and Sunday morning and will trigger showers and storms.

Rain chances are not all that high, and amounts are subject to some debate. The American GFS has more rain in its outlook than the European model does, but not by much. While the most recent run does raise the amounts of rain that we expect over the next seven days, neither is predicting the kind of rain that we need to erase the drought.

After several days in the 80s, highs will drop off, mainly due to the clouds and showers, not because of any cold air behind it. Highs at the end of the forecast will still be at or above normal.
