Cooler Today; Temperatures Trend Warmer

WOAY-TV (Oak Hill, WV): Temperatures this morning are in the lower 40s across the viewing area thanks to the cold front that passed through last night. While no Frost Advisories or Freeze Warnings were issued, some sensitive crops may be affected by these cooler temperatures. We won’t see much improvement today as temperatures will only reach into the mid-50s this afternoon. Cloudy skies will prevail throughout the day, but these gloomy conditions will not result in any rain.

Overnight, temperatures will dip into the 40s and even upper 30s, which means we could see a couple of Frost Advisories issued for the region tonight and tomorrow morning. Thankfully, temperatures will recover tomorrow afternoon, and mostly sunny skies will linger all day long. Meteorologist Christian Boteler has the details:

The weekend will start dry and seasonable on Saturday, but some scattered showers and thunderstorms will move through the region that evening. These storms and showers will produce minimal rainfall, peaking around a quarter of an inch. With the timing of these storms, we could see a stronger storm or two if enough energy is in the atmosphere from the sunshine. However, the most severe activity is currently projected to be to our west. After these storms and showers pass through late Saturday, conditions will remain dry through Sunday. In addition to dry conditions, temperatures will continue to warm up this weekend and into next week.

Speaking of next week, Monday is poised to be the warmest day we have had this month so far. Most of our region will reach 85 degrees or higher, and a few spots may even reach 90 degrees. Conditions will remain dry on Monday and Tuesday, which will further increase wildfire risk in our region. While burning should be avoided all spring, this will be an especially important time to avoid burning brush or other materials. The next chance of rain has been trending towards Tuesday night, but is now trending later into Wednesday over the last few model runs. Either way, we need the rain whenever it comes.
