Cooler Temperatures and Rain Expected By Mid-Week

There will be the chance for scattered showers and maybe a storm or two during the day on Monday. The atmosphere will not be supportive of severe weather, but there will be enough energy to produce some lightning strikes in the strongest storm that occurs. Here is one model around 6 PM Monday that does show a storm in our immediate area, so there is definitely the potential for some rain/thunder.

Monday will not be widespread rain, but Wednesday is a different story. Widespread rain appears likely Wednesday and Thursday which could definitely help our drought, but it will not completely eradicate it. Severe weather appears low these days as well, but some thunderstorms will appear possible just like on Monday. Most of the day Wednesday could very well be rainy, but Thursday appears rainy mostly early. Once we head into the late afternoon into evening on Thursday, some should start to dry back up.

The European shows some pretty nice rainfall totals across our area with parts of Fayette, Nicholas, Greenbrier and Pocahontas Counties receiving over an inch of rain over the next 7 days. The southern coalfields could also receive some good rain with almost everyone sitting over half an inch of rain. Again, this is nowhere near where we need to be to get rid of the drought, but at this point any rainfall helps. Most of this rain within the next 7 days will fall Wednesday and Thursday.

As we look at the full 7 day forecast, there is not a lot of rain potential in the next 7 days. Other than the chances on Monday and Wednesday/Thursday, it appears that Saturday could have more shower chances as we watch another system moving through the US. The temperatures will also not be above average for long, as they fall heading into late week to below average.
