Concord University’s “CU Free” program offering last dollar tuition assistance for eligible students

Athens, WV (WOAY)- Concord University’s “CU Free” program is still going strong 5 years after its inception.

CU Free is a financial aid tool for incoming freshmen, and current and transfer students.

The program allows qualifying students to earn a four-year degree without paying for tuition out of pocket.

Pell grant-eligible students receive last-dollar financial assistance to cover base tuition costs.

Chief enrollment management officer, Tammy Brown, states that since the program’s inception, CU Free has awarded 88 students over 4,000 dollars a year depending on the student’s financial aid.

The program automatically renews for four continuous years for first-time freshmen.

Transfer students can renew for up to eight semesters depending on transfer credits.

To be considered eligible for the program students must:

  • a West Virginia resident eligible for WV Higher Education Grant
  • Have a GPA of at least 3.0, if an incoming freshman
  • Have a GPA of at least 2.75, transfer student
