Beckley, WV (WOAY) A somber remembrance is planned in Raleigh County.
A ceremony honoring the victims of the Upper Big Branch Mine disaster will be held Monday at noon at the Miners Memorial Garden in downtown Beckley.
The explosion happened on April 5th, 2010, claiming the lives of 29 miners, making it the deadliest mining disaster in the U.S. in decades.
This year marks the 16th anniversary, and community members are invited to attend and pay their respects.
