Bridge Day brings lodging demand to Fayette County

Fayetteville, WV (WOAY) – Bridge Day returns to the New River Gorge on Saturday, Oct. 17, and the Fayette County Chamber of Commerce forecasts 60,000 to 120,000 visitors. Many of them will spend time in the region and need a place to stay.

Fayette County has two recent additions to help house those guests. The Holiday Lodge on Oyler Avenue in Oak Hill reopened in July. Hill Hall Hotel welcomed its first guests in August inside the former Fayetteville middle and high school in downtown Fayetteville.

Bookings at Hill Hall suggest a busy Bridge Day weekend.

“We booked Bridge Day weekend almost immediately when we made bookings live … There are a few random little one-night stays hidden in there. So if anybody needs a last-minute stay, they should give us a call or check the website, but we are largely booked,” said Amy Summerford, general manager of Hill Hall Hotel.

Summerford said demand far outpaces what one hotel can offer.

“We could probably fill 10 hotels for Bridge Day,” she said.
