Fayetteville, WV (WOAY) “Getting a flu vaccine is one of the simplest things you can do to protect yourself, your family, and your community from the flu,” said Fayette County Health Dept. Director of Nursing Mindy Ewing, standing a short distance from the mobile vaccine clinic just outside the Fayette County Courthouse.
Flu season comes around every year, and making just a little time to get that flu vaccine can ensure that you and your loved ones are protected against this year’s strain.
“People don’t realize how serious it can be for people who are elderly, children, pregnant women, or people who have chronic conditions.”
This Wednesday, the Fayette County Health Department had a pop-up clinic in front of the Fayetteville Courthouse to make it easy for those in the area. But even without a pop-up clinic, it’s easy to schedule a free flu vaccine with your local pharmacy, doctor’s office, clinic, or health department, and many providers offer walk-ins.
“Just swing by. You have to fill out a paper. If you have insurance, it’s okay. We’ll bill your insurance for the flu shot. You won’t have any co-pays. And if you don’t have insurance, that’s okay too. We’ll get you a flu shot.”
COVID-19 vaccines are also recommended and available for those 65 and older and those with chronic health conditions. Other respiratory viruses also spread in the fall and winter, and it can be worthwhile to make sure you’re up-to-date on all your vaccines by checking with your local health department.
“If you want to call the health department, we can give you your status. But I would check on your RSV vaccine, your pneumonia vaccine, and your shingles.”
