Cloudy and cool for the holiday weekend

It is a cloudy afternoon around southern West Virginia, but despite the clouds there are no showers around. The clouds look dark enough when seen from the ground, but the radar is a clean sweep for now here in our area.

You have to travel north of the area to run into rain. The showers are the stratiform type and are light and scattered.

The temperatures, meanwhile, are stuck in the 50s, due to the cloud cover and the influx of cold air in the wake of the two low pressure centers that are moving slowly away from the area.

The easternmost of the two lows is a classic Nor’easter of the type that in the winter might give us good amounts of snow.

Once it is gone, skies clear but with cold air in place, temperatures are still unable to get to the normal for this time of the year. Highs will be in the middle 60s through the weekend, rising up to near 70 on the Memorial Day holiday.

By the end of the holiday, the chance for rain continues as the weather pattern becomes active again. A series of lows will push into the region, and chances for rain will be in the forecast through the rest of the extended period.
