OAK HILL, WV (WOAY) – We’ve been tracking some scattered showers and storms through the region this evening. None of them have been strong, but they will make for a slick trip out to any late-evening plans. As the night goes on, any lingering showers end, and temperatures fall into the lower 60s once again.
The first half of the weekend will feature more summer-like weather, appropriate for the last day of the West Virginia State Fair in Lewisburg.
There, like in other parts of the area, we’ll see scattered showers and storms. The trigger for the storms is a front that will pass through the area late tomorrow night. Some of the storms could be on the strong side with damaging winds and large hail. The region is under a Level 1 out of 5 for severe storms from tomorrow morning through Sunday morning, with the main threat window stretching from tomorrow afternoon until early Sunday morning. The primary threat area will not be in Greenbrier County but will be in areas along and to the northwest of the spine of the Appalachians.
Damaging winds and large hail are the main threats, but any storm could lead to localized flooding.
Highs tomorrow will be in the upper 70s to lower 80s, close to normal. Tomorrow night after the front passes through, lows will drop into the upper 50s.
The second half of the weekend will start with the aforementioned showers and storms, but as the day goes on, the sun will break out and the day will end with plenty of sunshine and highs in the mid-70s. If there is a downside, it will be the breeze. Winds will shift to the northwest and could be breezy at times, gusting to around 25 miles per hour. The winds calm down after sunset, and with clear skies and dry air in place, lows will be in the mid-50s.
