BECKLEY, WV (WOAY) – The City of Beckley is still uncertain when some Main Street buildings will be demolished.
Since June 24, Main Street has been closed to traffic after buildings were damaged from a roof collapse. The demolition is slowly ongoing, but the city still isn’t sure of a definitive date of when it will be complete.
The city’s chief financial officer Billie Trump says that surveying teams are taking extra precautions to ensure the demolition doesn’t cause any major issues.
“They’ve had surveyors look at it on multiple occasions to make sure that it’s not moving. And the demolition is going, let’s say gradually, in order not to make any more problems that already exist,” Trump said.
Main Street is expected to remain closed to traffic until the buildings are fully demolished.
