It’s that time again: Beckley is gearing up for its 33rd annual chili night on Saturday, October 5th from 4 to 7:30 pm.
The competition is open to area businesses, organizations, and individuals, and there is so much more.
“We have over 30 chili vendors and about 30 other booths that will be set up along the streets downtown. We have several stages of entertainment and a lot of great music,” said Beckley events director Jill Moorefield.
We’ll have some kid’s activities and other things happening; so hopefully everybody’ll save the date.”
People just love chili.
“It’s become a fall tradition, and everybody just really enjoys it. We’re just so thankful that the community continues to come out for it and businesses, organizations and others that want to make chili for the event.”
Those taking part in chili night typically make anywhere from five to 12 or more gallons. Some groups make 20 gallons of chili to support this because it runs out quickly…
“For $5, you get five sample tickets to try five different chilies and you get a people’s choice voting coin that you can leave at your favorite booth.”
According to Moorefield, there’s a chili for everyone.
“Some of them also have spicy or a specialty unique chili that might be a vegetarian or a white chili. So there’s probably about 40 some different chilies that’ll be up there that night.”
Want to check out something besides chili?
“I think there’s like 16 other food vendors as well as some information vendors and some craft vendors that will be there. So, about 65 booths in all. Hopefully, everybody’ll save the date.”
