WOAY-TV (Oak Hill, WV): Temperatures have risen by a few degrees compared to yesterday morning, ranging from the mid-50s to the lower 60s. It still feels nice for a late summer morning, and conditions will be calm for the commute. Patchy fog will be an issue, especially in the Greenbrier Valley and surrounding areas. As the sun shines and the morning passes, fog will dissipate. Skies will remain mostly sunny for the entire day, which continues our streak of great weather for this week.
Afternoon temperatures will reach into the mid- to upper 80s, which is a concern for those sensitive to the heat. Anyone working outside for an extended period of time should have plenty of water and sun protection. We are not reaching the highest temperatures of the summer, but warmer than average temperatures will still impact our communities. Temperatures will fall back into the lower 60s overnight, but will rise into the mid-80s again tomorrow. This will be the best day for the next week or so, so take advantage! Thursday morning will be calm, but skies will become cloudier through the morning. High pressure will slowly slink away from New England, allowing rain chances to return to the forecast. Along with the exiting high, a frontal system will continue its slow approach to the region. This system will not pass the region tomorrow, but activity can form ahead of the system. Showers and thunderstorms will eventually make their way into the region during the afternoon, staying scattered through the evening. Activity will begin to fade overnight, but rain will not completely stop. This will be the first of several rainy days over the next week.
The main concern tomorrow will be heavy rain causing isolated, localized flooding. Most of the area should be able to handle this round of rain since we have been dry for a few days, but vulnerable spots may experience ponding of water. Thunderstorms are trending to stay sub-severe, but a gusty storm or two cannot be ruled out. Storm strength will partially be determined by the amount of sunshine we receive before activity begins developing. Temperatures will remain in the mid-80s during the afternoon as the cold front will not impact these values until Friday.
The frontal system will make its way into the region on Friday, bringing showers and storms throughout the day. The morning commute will be impacted, but peak activity is likely during the afternoon. Storms are trending to remain weaker, but heavy rain remains a possibility. Conditions will improve during the evening, but storms and showers will not completely leave the region until the overnight hours. The passing front will bring temperatures back down into the low 80s, which is a small silver-lining. A couple of games may be affected by passing storms and showers, but most will only be impacted by damp fields.
Saturday is trending in the right direction. Conditions stay mostly dry through the day with only a couple of stray showers possible. Stormy and rainy conditions return on Sunday as the next round passes through the region. Storms and showers will continue not just through Sunday, but early next week as well. Temperatures remain in the upper 70s and lower 80s, but there is some indication of a slight cool down during the second half of next week. We are keeping an eye on this trend as the week continues.
