OAK HILL, WV (WOAY) –Â It was another nice afternoon around the area, with temperatures a few degrees warmer than they were yesterday.
The warming trend continues tonight as lows drop to right around 60 degrees in most areas, with lower to mid-50s in the Greenbrier Valley and Pocahontas County. Overall, it will be above normal for mid-September. Skies will be clear to mostly clear.
Tomorrow we’ll see one more nice day as temperatures continue their climb. Highs will be in the mid-80s under mostly sunny skies. It will be a great day to do anything outside; just remember the sunscreen and extra water for any outdoor plans in the late morning and early afternoon.
It could be a bit breezy at times as the winds pick up a bit ahead of an advancing front. Lows tomorrow night will be close to summertime territory again, generally in the lower to mid-60s.
Thursday, the front arrives and brings with it a chance for showers and storms.
The storms that develop will feature heavy rain as there is plenty of moisture for the storms to work with. The northern portion of the area will see a chance for amounts of rain that could cause flash flooding.
If there is flooding, it will primarily be standing water in low-lying areas and ponding water on roads. Despite the rain potential, temperatures will be in the mid-80s by the afternoon. The cloud cover will keep it a bit warmer overnight Thursday into Friday.
The extended forecast starts with continued chances for rain. It looks like the rain gear will once again come in handy for the Friday night football games. Right now, the thinking is that the rain will clear the area from north to south and will be gone for the most part by kickoff. The best chance for wet weather will be in the southern coalfields.
After highs on Friday wind up in the lower 80s, lows Friday night into Saturday morning will be in the lower 60s. Both are dependent on the cloud cover.
For the weekend and beyond, it looks like Saturday is the best day of the latter half of the extended forecast. Another system will come into the area, but it should arrive late enough to give us a decent day with highs in the lower 80s. Once the next front arrives, it will stick around and raise the rain chances while lowering the temperatures by a few degrees.
