Another cool day, but warmer weather returns soon

It is another very nice, day around the region. There is a weak disturbance in the middle levels of the atmosphere, and a few showers have popped up on the radar in parts of Ohio and Pennsylvania, but over our part of West Virginia, the air is too dry to see any of the showers fall.

It’s also a very cool afternoon with temperatures in the 60s and lower 70s, once again about 10 degrees below the normal. It’s quite a refreshing chance from most of the summer so far, where we saw so much heat and humidity. Tonight, we’re expecting lows to be very cool. I’m forecasting Beckley (along with most other areas) to drop below 50 degrees. If that happens, it would be the second consecutive night after this morning marked, which marked the first time since June 3rd that we dropped below 50 degrees there! The average low for tomorrow in Beckley is 60 degrees.

Tomorrow, the highs will be on the cool side again and most locations won’t be able to reach the 70-degree mark. The only areas that will get to or above 70 degrees will be in the southwestern areas, and even they’ll barely get to that level. Tomorrow night, we’ll continue the cool trend with lows at or below 50 degrees once again in most areas.

Beginning Thursday, a gradual warmup is in the forecast. Temperatures will climb into the middle 70s in the afternoons and lows will be in the lower 50s rather than the upper 40s. On Friday, a system will come into the region and possibly trigger some showers over our area, but it looks like the rain should stay to our north and northwest.
