Active weather continues this weekend and beyond

It is another windy evening around the area, as a strong low-pressure center continues to pass to our north and interacts with high-pressure to our southwest over Arkansas. Many locations are once again seeing gusts near 30 mph.
Temperatures are cold now that the front has passed through the region, with most locations in the upper 20s and lower 30s. With the wind speeds and gusts staying elevated over the next couple of days, it will feel even colder.
In addition to the wind and cold, snow is also flying in the northern portions of the area.
Most of the snow is confined to portions of Pocahontas, Greenbrier, and Nicholas Counties, and the first two of those have Winter Weather Advisories in effect through tomorrow.
As we head out to the big holiday shopping plans, we’ll have to have the coats and gloves on, as temperatures will only top out in the upper 20s.
On the positive side, there will be plenty of sunshine by the afternoon. Tomorrow night will be even colder than tonight, and lows will be in the upper teens area-wide, with upper single digits and lower teens in parts of Pocahontas County.
The weekend will feature more cool weather and a return of rain and snow showers as another system comes into the area. Saturday is the better of the two weekend days, with plenty of sunshine like we’ll see on Friday, but cold temperatures in the afternoon, albeit slightly warmer than what we’ll see on Friday. The first of two systems that will impact our weather comes into the area from the west on Sunday.
Most of the precipitation from this first system will be rain, but there will be some snow as well. Any accumulations will be very light outside of the higher elevations. In fact, this first system will be drier than the second, as it has less moisture to work with. The second system arrives on Tuesday.
Temperatures will stay below normal across the board.
