Beckley, WV (WOAY) – Active Southern West Virginia announced that it’s bringing running back to Beckley with two events – a half marathon and a 5K.
Both events are set for September 26th, starting and finishing at the Beckley Exhibition Coal Mine.
Runners will wind through New River Park and along the Lewis McManus trail before heading into uptown Beckley and back.
Finishers will get a t-shirt, medal, and a post-race meal consisting of some carb-replenishing West Virginia classics like cornbread and pepperoni rolls.
Active Southern West Virginia is a non-profit focused on getting Southern West Virginians moving, and breaking down the barriers keeping them from doing so.
Development Director Jenni Canterbury says there’s plenty of time to prepare for September’s events, and Active Southern West Virginia offers ways to help you get started.
“Start with a few steps, because the only way that you’re going to get to that 5K distance, half marathon distance, is by starting with these short running distances and building from there,” said Canterbury. “Active Southern West Virginia, offers free community walking routes and running groups.”
Online registration is now open for both the half marathon and 5K events:

Kids 12 and under can sign up for the 5K at no charge.
Proceeds from Active Southern West Virginia races directly support the organization’s free community programming aimed at improving access to physical activity throughout the region.
