Fairlea, WV (WOAY) With the ever-rising cost of living, many families may be looking for fun that doesn’t cost a fortune. The West Virginia State Fair has plenty of entertainment that won’t break the bank. On the fair’s first day, fairgoer Tyler Gray recounted a motorcycle stunt show he saw earlier:
“We’ve seen the fellows going around the cages doing donuts, donuts, and then they put somebody in the middle and kept doing donuts. So that’s pretty cool.”
The stunt show was one of many free attractions Gray and hundreds of others on the fairgrounds enjoyed.
“We did a bunch of walk-arounds, got to see a lot of animals, a lot of cows, goats, pigs. We went to the Greenbrier Garden—beautiful place—walked through all kinds of flowers and plants. We did the market; all the vendors open, selling stuff, good prices, all kinds of stuff.”
With the price of admission, fairgoers get access to live music, stunt shows, animal exhibitions, artisan demonstrations, and much more. Even when you take a break in the market out of the heat, you might find yourself taking a virtual drive down country roads. All this for a ticket to the fair, and there are many opportunities to save on admission too. Fair CEO Kelly Collins recommends checking online for the fair’s full calendar of events and ticket specials:
“Last year, we actually dropped our gate admission down on weekdays to $10, and our weekends are still $15… We also have a lot of ticketing specials you can catch on our website or on our social media pages, with the best being Mount Valley Pipeline’s Dollar Day. So next Tuesday you can get into the state fair for a dollar, and ride passes are only $20 that day. So it’s an extremely cheap day to come to the fair, and I highly recommend it if you’re trying to get the best deal.”
Other ticket deals include special days for veterans and senior citizens, afternoon specials after 4:00, and even a chance for locals to get their admission fee back when they come for lunch between 11 and 1. You can even save money by giving back on Monday, August 17th, and helping with the Communities in Schools of Greenbrier County Stuff the Bus initiative.
“On Monday, we actually have a school supply drive, so you bring in three school supply items or personal hygiene products, and you actually get rides and admission for just $25, which is a great deal as well.”
