It is an increasingly cloudy afternoon as a front pushes towards the region. While it’s dry at the moment, a mass of showers – with some embedded thunderstorms – is approaching the area this afternoon and will be here in time for the afternoon commute.

Some of the storms could be on the stronger side, with gusty winds and even some small hail, but these will be few and far between. Rainfall totals with the storms could be as high as a half inch or so in a short span of time, creating some ponding on the roads and standing water in low lying spots.

The front that is producing the showers and storms should be out of our area by tomorrow morning and behind it, winds will shift to the northwest and slightly cooler air will make its way into the region. Highs will still be at or above the normal, however, a trend that lasts through the entire forecast period. The chance for showers returns later this week as another system approaches from the west. The latter half of the extended forecast looks to be wet, as a series of lows passes to the north of the region. Rainfall totals with the late week system look to be decent – generally between 0.5 and 1.5 inches – but it should be spread out enough to be mainly beneficial, especially given that southern parts of the area are abnormally dry.
