A little less smoke, a lot more rain on the way

It was a warm afternoon around the region, and the 3 p.m. temperatures showed it. Even in the high elevation locations, temperatures got to 80 degrees. Pineville (usually the warm spot around the region) even pushed 90 degrees!

The good news in today’s weather – especially for people who are sensitive to smoke, is that the amount of smoke from the fires to our northwest is less today, mainly due to the winds turning around to the south, especially later tonight.

There will be chances for showers and storms beginning tomorrow evening and lasting through much of the rest of the extended forecast.

The showers and storms will be frequent as a front stalls out to our north and gives us several days’ worth of rain chances; some of the storms could be on the strong side. Severe weather is not expected, however.

The one thing that we will be concerned with is the possibility for some flooding. This will mainly in the low-lying spots and ponding on the roads because of the fact that we’ve seen dry conditions over the last few days. Still, rainfall totals will be fairly high in some spots.

Late in the forecast, we’ll see the chances for rain become more diurnal as a true summertime pattern takes hold. With the extra rain chances, temperatures will go down a bit in the afternoons and be a bit warmer in the morning.
