A pretty nice day today across Southern West Virginia, and Wednesday will not be much different, although it’ll be warmer. Wednesday brings up some issues with the weather as we will remain dry but will feature gusty winds at times and low relative humidity values. The combination of these factors will lead to an increased fire danger for Wednesday and Thursday.

Looking at the latest drought monitor, we notice the drought is starting to creep closer to Southern West Virginia. Tazewell County, VA is the only place in our area that has some sort of Moderate drought, the rest of the yellow shaded region is abnormally dry. With the lack of rainfall have seen within recent days, and the lack in the forecast we could see the moderate risk potentially shift even closer into our area.

So while the full 7 day forecast looks pretty good across our region, the lack of rainfall is something to note, as temperatures slowly rise up toward 80 degrees going into Sunday. There is a chance of shower activity on Saturday, but only a few models think that, so it’s still a very low chance until they all start to agree slightly more than they do now.
