It is a warm day around southern West Virginia this afternoon, with temperatures in the 70s and 80s. The humidity levels are not high, but it still feels a bit on the muggy side.

There is some smoke and haze around the region as the Canadian wildfires continue to rage, now scorching more than 8 million acres. With the flow in the middle and upper levels bringing it into the region, the smoke has reduced our air quality. It is considered to be moderate, so if you’re planning to head outdoors, you’ll want to take it easy, especially if you have breathing conditions.

The one thing that could reduce the smoke would be some rain, and that is in the forecast later this week and into the weekend.

Once the showers and storms are here, the chance for rain will last through the rest of the extended forecast. Chances will be high throughout the weekend, tapering off a bit by early next week. For now, it appears that severe weather is not in the cards. The one thing that we will have to watch for is the chances for flooding. High rain totals are possible as there is plenty of moisture for the storms that do form to work with.
