WVU Tech Engineering and Design Expo shows off student skills

Beckley, WV (WOAY) – WVU Tech’s Annual Engineering and Design Expo displays the culmination of many students’ educations. Professor of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Yogen Panta, Ph.D., explains how students’ time at Tech builds towards the day’s presentations:

“These students, in their final year… work on a topic, spending hours working with their teammates, talking to their advisors, and making sure everything is in line to graduate. But the most important part is that they learn—lifelong learning. They actually know what they have learned over four years, and they can apply it to their final-year project.”

Among the senior projects, you’ll find unique inventions, creative computer programs, and specialized industrial solutions from students of engineering, science, psychology, and more.

“This is a great opportunity for some sort of innovation, some sort of out-of-the-box type of thinking, because they learn—but then, where to use it? So when they meet together as a team… They come up with really nice ideas. I’ve seen that. But more than that, they can apply this not just to this project, but in their workplace after they graduate.”

The students’ projects aren’t only for a final grade, but also to show their skills to potential employers.

“They are just a month away from their graduation. So this helps them with where to go and how to connect with people. And in fact, we have some industry people here who are going to give them good advice and give them feedback.”

The work of WVU Tech’s graduating seniors is sure to impress, from final projects to future careers.
