Flooding and mudslides across Fayette County, parts of Southern WV

Fayette County, WV (WOAY) In the morning hours of Sunday, a deluge of rainfall occurred in parts of southern West Virginia.

Numerous flash flood warnings were issued for parts of Fayette, Raleigh, Summers, and Greenbrier counties. One of those warnings was labeled as a “Considerable” flash flood warning, in which the wireless emergency alert system on cellphones was triggered.

2-4 inches of rain was widespread across Fayette County, which seemed to be among the hardest hit.

The typical trouble spots were trouble once again as the flood waters started to rise, but in some other areas, locals said they had never seen water levels this high.

Unlike the floods we have seen recently, numerous mudslides have been reported across the region.

Some of them brought down power lines, but most of them sent mud, rocks, and trees flying down the mountainsides with the water.

With more rain in the forecast, make sure you stay alert to rapidly changing weather conditions, as any rainfall over these saturated grounds could continue to cause problems over the next couple of days.
