EMS working around the clock during a month of flooding

Fayetteville, WV (WOAY) With all the recent flooding, emergency responders across Fayette County have been working around the clock.

Departments often go the distance to assist each other, like this Sunday, when the Gauley River and Montgomery fire departments helped with several water rescues in Armstrong Creek.

And emergencies don’t wait for weather. Just before this Sunday morning’s flooding, the Fayetteville Fire Department was out around 2 am, rescuing a man who fell from a cliff around Beauty Mountain.

Fayetteville Fire Chief John Vernon says that it’s been a long month.

“It’s just like one after another. I think we’re up to over 20-some calls just so far this month in Fayetteville. And with the way the storms have been this month, it gets to be taxing.”

Despite the struggle, emergency responders keep going to keep us safe. Be sure to thank them for their hard work, and remember to do your part to stay safe in bad weather by avoiding any high water on the roads.
