West Virginia (WOAY)- At a time when campus safety is a national priority, West Virginia University Police continue their commitment to proactive community policing.
A dedication clearly reflected in the latest Clery Act report.Â
While overall crime trends remain steady, three categories saw increases in 2024: burglaries rose from 10 to 25, domestic violence from 24 to 32, and stalking reports jumped from 24 to 42.
According to Police Chief Sherry St. Clair, authorities link these trends to post-breakup incidents.Â
This year’s report previews new changes under the Stop Campus Hazing Act, requiring hazing to be tracked and publicly reported starting next year.Â
WVU continues to enhance its safety tools, including the LiveSafe app and campus-wide prevention programs, while urging students, faculty, and staff to stay informed through official alerts and social media.Â
