BECKLEY, WV (WOAY) – For the second time in three years, Woodrow Wilson girls basketball has advanced to the Class AAA state tournament. The Lady Flying Eagles overcame a first-quarter deficit to win 62-44 over George Washington.
Like Friday’s sectional championship game at Greenbrier East, the game started with the lead going back-and-forth between the two teams, with Beckley gaining momentum in the second quarter and leading by double digits for much of the second half. Liz Cadle and Victoria Staunton each scored 17 points for the Lady Flying Eagles.
Woodrow Wilson will be the #2 seed in the state tournament, and will face Morgantown on Wednesday, March 11 at 11:15 AM.
Greenbrier East is also returning to states for the second year in a row after a 53-43 win at South Charleston. Amya Damon led the Lady Spartans with 19 points, while Emma Dotson recorded 10 and Haley McClure had nine. The Lady Spartans are the #3 seed and will play Martinsburg on Thursday, March 12 at 7:15 PM.
