OAK HILL, WV (WOAY) – A front that is pushing through the region today has triggered showers and storms this evening. Some of the storms have been strong today, and one or two have been severe, with gusty winds and small hail. The day went about as expected, with the strongest storms off to the south and east of the area, so if you’re traveling that direction tonight, there will be some rough conditions through tomorrow morning. The other story in the weather is how mild it is. Temperatures wound up in the 80s through most of the region, with upper 70s in the usual cooler spots. Tonight will be mild as well, with lows in the lower 60s.
Despite the front, the weather for our first Fabulous Football Friday of the season is looking more like summer, with highs in the upper 70s to around 80 degrees. A few lingering storms are possible as the day goes on, but while a rain jacket will be a nice accessory to have, it won’t be necessary throughout the entire game, if at all.
It will be mild as we leave the stadiums as well; lows tomorrow night will be in the lower 60s again, a shade cooler due to the front.
The upcoming weekend will be very nice, with mild temperatures and lots of sunshine. Highs will be in the lower to mid-80s, and lows will be in the mid-60s. That trend will continue into next week, and in a slight change to the forecast from Wednesday, it looks like the front that we were expecting should be bottled up to the north thanks to high pressure that will be located over western North Carolina, meaning it should stay dry. It will also be very warm, as highs by the middle of the week will be in the mid-to-upper 80s.
That brief taste of fall from earlier this week looks to be just that, brief.
