OAK HILL, WV (WOAY) –Â Strong storms rolled through the area today as a strong front is pushing into the region. Despite the clouds, temperatures will actually be a bit lower than they have been as cooler air begins to settle in. Lows tonight will be in the upper 50s for most.
Today’s showers and storms are the beginning of a very wet pattern for us, one that will see numerous systems push close to the area but not totally through. Through much of the upcoming seven-day period, the satellite radar will look like what we see here on the Futurecast for tomorrow at 2 p.m.

At the end of the forecast period, we see a stationary front parked over the state. The bottom line is that the rest of the forecast will feature very good chances for showers and storms. The frequent showers and storms are not so great for the Memorial Day weekend plans, but are great for helping to ease the drought that continues to have a grip on the area. Both of the major atmospheric models that we look at have almost everyone picking up more than 1.5 inches of rain. Many areas will pick up much more than that. This should bring good news when we see the next drought monitor (not the one tomorrow, as there is a bit of a lag).

As for temperatures, we’ll cool off quite a bit over the next couple of days as the cool front swings through. Highs will be in the upper 60s and lower 70s both tomorrow and Friday. A warm front pushes through this weekend, driving the highs back into the upper 70s, where they’ll stay throughout the rest of the extended forecast.
