Princeton, WV (WOAY) – West Virginia Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) has chosen Alan Christian of the Mercer County Sheriff’s Department as 2025’s Leader of the Year.
In the official announcement, the WVCIT states that Sheriff Christian truly embodies what Crisis Intervention Team leadership is all about, demonstrating unwavering dedication to improving the region’s response to mental health crises.
Thanks to his leadership, Mercer County launched its first-ever CIT initiative and quickly set the standard for the rest of West Virginia.
It’s now seen as a model for how cross-system partnerships can save lives and strengthen communities.
CIT programs aim to bring together police, mental health experts, advocates, and others to respond more safely and effectively when someone is in crisis.
