CHARLESTON, WV (WOAY) – February 12 kicked off the Mountain State’s first legislative session for 2025.
For many new lawmakers, it’s their inaugural experience at the capitol.
It’s been a journey to get there, but the day that Senator Brian Helton (R-Fayette) looked forward to for a long time.
Helton is excited to be in Charleston as a freshman senator. He says they have a lot of great bills on tap, from substance abuse disorder to economic development opportunities.
The senator is chairman of several committees: including substance abuse and mental health disorders, transportation and infrastructure, energy, and government organizations.
“As the senator from the ninth district, I’m excited to get started and can’t wait to serve because this year we see across our nation the political winds have started to shift,” Helton said. “I think it’s time we brought back true conservatism to our government, particularly our state government. More than ever, we need leaders who understand and share our West Virginia values. And more importantly, leaders who recognize those values are worth defending.”
There is going to be a wonderful working relationship between our legislature and the governor’s office under Morrissey, according to Helton.
The senator is looking forward to the new agenda and is ready to get involved in the process to make Southern West Virginia great again.
