Charleston, WV (WOAY)- The West Virginia Department of Human Services (DoHS) is accepting applications for the Emergency Low Income Energy Assistance Program (E-LIEAP) now through Friday, August 8, 2025, or while program funds last.
The E-LIEAP program is designed to support low-income households across the state that are facing an energy crisis.
While traditionally used to help residents with heating needs, this year’s program may also offer assistance for cooling costs in certain qualifying situations.
To qualify for E-LIEAP assistance, applicants must meet several criteria:
-
For gas or electric customers: A termination notice must be presented at the time of application.
-
For bulk fuel users (such as propane, fuel oil, kerosene, wood, or coal): Applicants must demonstrate a low fuel supply.
-
Households that previously received a regular LIEAP payment for bulk fuel must provide a receipt or documentation showing that the assistance was used to purchase fuel. Without this proof, E-LIEAP applications may be denied.
In addition to fuel status, eligibility is determined by household income, household size, and whether the applicant is responsible for paying the energy bill.
All applicants must meet in person with a DoHS worker.
The maximum gross income limits for LIEAP Fiscal Year 2025 are based on household size.
For each additional household member, add $673 to the allowable gross income.
Residents seeking assistance must apply in person at their local DoHS office.
