West Virginia Department of Health changes death certificate process to make records more accessible to families

Charleston, WV (WOAY)—The West Virginia Department of Health has announced a change in the process for obtaining certified death certificates.

Effective immediately, West Virginia Health Statistics Center will begin fulfilling all orders for certified copies of death certificates, even when the cause and manner of death are listed as pending.

The change aims to improve residents’ access to vital records documentation and eliminate delays for families who need official documentation to handle urgent matters.

The Department says that by making this change, it intends to reduce bureaucratic hurdles and provide timely access to vital records during a difficult and emotional time.

Electronic payment options will also be available to access records at 12 dollars a copy.

VitalChek offers an expedited service to quickly obtain records for those who need them.
