West Virginia Cancer Registry earns highest recognition level by CDC

Charleston, WV (WOAY) The West Virginia Cancer Registry has earned one of the nation’s highest honors for cancer data collection.

The registry, housed within the West Virginia Department of Health’s Office of Epidemiology and Prevention Services, was recognized as a “Registry of Excellence” by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s National Program of Cancer Registries.

The designation recognizes the state’s ability to meet the highest standards for data quality, completeness, and timeliness.

West Virginia was one of only 20 cancer registries nationwide to receive the honor.

Health officials say the recognition reflects the work of registry staff who collect and maintain data used for cancer research, tracking disease trends, and evaluating prevention and treatment programs.

As a result, West Virginia’s data will be included in upcoming national cancer statistics reports and research databases used by healthcare providers, researchers, and policymakers across the country.
