Well-Seed Sower’s new Beckley location helps those interested in long-term recovery from drugs

RALEIGH COUNTY, WV (WOAY) – The Well-Seed Sower’s safe, supportive, secure recovery organization from substance use disorder is celebrating its new Beckley location.

The 5,000 square foot space offers group meetings, on-site peer recovery assessment and planning, harm reduction, judgment-free advocates, and much more.

“We’re very excited because this has been a long time in the making, and it took a lot of partners, planning, and a lot of good teamwork on the part of the folks who work with us, especially the First Foundation that funded the renovations of the project,” said Executive Director Jay Phillips.

Addiction affects every single aspect of someone’s life.

“Barriers and unmet needs they have, struggles they go through, whether it’s safe housing or transportation, or even a lack of a suitable mentor to show them the pathway out of addiction into long-term sustainable recovery,” Phillips said. “What we try to do in each of those areas is provide a pathway and resource to serve those folks and the communities and organizations that serve those folks as well.”

According to the executive director, their housing operations include Raleigh and Greenbrier County. And they currently have 16 transport vehicles in service.

“Focused exclusively on taking people in recovery to the appointments they need to get to; doctors’ offices, dentists, behavioral health, mental health, the hospital,” said Phillips. “Or take their child to the pediatrician, go to work, training, education, or to the West Virginia Adult Ed next door to help eliminate that barrier.”

It’s a great, easily accessible location right in the center of town.

“I think that’s important because we want people to be free and welcome to come over here to seek out whatever resources they need to succeed,” Phillips said.
