It is a partly cloudy and summerlike day around the region as temperatures are in the low 80s in most areas, with some 70s in parts of the southern coalfields. With the humidity, it feels a bit warmer, but even so, it doesn’t feel as warm as it did a few days ago.
There are a few showers and storms around as well, but they are very scattered. Later tonight, any rain ends and patchy fog returns. Lows will be in the mid-60s.
The weekend features more warm temperatures, with highs in the mid-80s both days. Lows will only drop to the middle 60s, and there will be plenty of moisture around with patchy fog fairly widespread tomorrow morning and more fog on Sunday morning in areas that see rain on Saturday. The showers and storms will be scattered on Saturday and much more likely on Sunday, with some of the storms on Sunday possibly strong with gusty winds. Any storm that pops up will have plenty of moisture to work with, so the usual concerns when there is heavy rainfall will be evident again, meaning ponding of water on the roads and standing water in the usual poor drainage areas.

After the weekend ends, things dry out a bit with storm chances going down by Monday evening and a more typical summertime pattern taking over. Scattered pop-up storms are in the forecast on Tuesday and Wednesday, but by Thursday, another front pushing into the region from the northwest means another round of higher-than-normal storm chances. By Friday, some of the storms could be strong to severe again.
