Weekend Outlook: Cooler and wet

OAK HILL, WV (WOAY) – The rain returned this afternoon and evening. Some of the rain was heavy, especially in the southwestern areas. There was a Flash Flood Warning in McDowell County, as nearly 3″ of rain fell in a few hours there.

The showers are gone for now, but more rain is on the way through the night. With the cloud cover, lows will be in the upper 50s to lower 60s. Patchy fog is again possible, especially in areas that saw rain.

The weekend starts with more clouds and showers as another band of rain pushes through the region. Some of the showers could be strong, but severe weather is not expected.

The front is going to push through the state and keep the temperatures steady for most of the day. Depending on when the front comes through, temperatures might even fall a bit during the day. Additional showers will fall during the late evening and early Sunday morning as the front will become quasi-stationary just off to our south. Highs will be in the mid-60s and will occur early in the day. Lows Saturday night will drop into the mid-50s.

Sunday will see another round of showers as the front fails to clear the area, continuing to produce more rain. Along the front, a low-pressure center will develop, and that will enhance the number of showers and the intensity of the rain that does fall. There will be a chance that some areas will see high enough amounts of rain over a short enough time span to cause flash flooding. Chances for flash flooding are even better on Sunday, according to the Weather Prediction Center, than they will be on Saturday.

The chance for rain will end late Sunday afternoon, and skies will begin to clear as high pressure moves into the region. By the time we start the traditional work week, lows will be in the lower 50s and skies will be clear.
