OAK HILL, WV (WOAY) – We are headed into the weekend on a cool note, with highs today in the middle to upper 50s. That’s about 10 degrees below the normal for today. There were a few showers around today, mainly in the northern areas, but they faded shortly after sunset. Tonight, skies will be mostly cloudy, but it will still be cold, as we drop into the middle to upper 30s. Some of the high elevation areas will be around the freezing mark, and there are freeze warnings for those areas.

The start of the weekend will be cool, so a jacket will be necessary if you’re headed out to early plans. By Saturday afternoon, the sun will break out, but temperatures will remain cool, only topping out in the mid-50s. There will be a few showers, mainly to the north of the area, in the afternoon. A few of these might make it into our area, but for the most part, we should stay dry.

With a cool start to the evening, plenty of dry air in place, clear skies, and enough nighttime hours, we’ll see even colder temperatures Sunday morning. Many areas will be near the freezing mark, and, with that in mind, the National Weather Service has issued a Freeze Watch for the northern and western parts of the region, as noted above. As Sunday goes on, we’ll see a nice warmup, but it still won’t be as warm as it should be. We should stay dry during the day.
As we go into the next traditional work week, there will be some rain that will return to the skies, but that will have to wait until later in the day.
