OAK HILL, WV (WOAY) – We saw a nice day today, but it was a bit on the cool side. Tonight, we will not be as cold as last night, as both Beckley and Bluefield dropped into the mid-30s. Instead, we will see lows in the upper 40s as the flow has turned to the south ahead of another cold front/warm front combination that will influence our weather on both weekend days.
Tomorrow, the warm front side of the storm will overspread the region. It will drive the temperatures up a bit and give us a chance for scattered showers and storms. Most of the rain will be to our north as the front itself drives through West Virginia and into Ohio and Pennsylvania. The rain should not be heavy enough or widespread enough to cancel any outdoor plans, but you might consider an indoor alternative just in case. Highs will be slightly warmer than they were today and will be right around the 70-degree mark, only a few degrees warmer than today. Tomorrow night’s lows will be near 50 degrees again, similar to tonight.
On Mother’s Day, we’ll see better chances for showers and storms, but it won’t be until later in the day, so most of the Sunday plans should be fine weather-wise, as long as they’re in the morning or early afternoon. Just like Saturday, alternative indoor plans are a good idea. Some of the storms on Sunday will have decent pop, but severe weather is not expected. What we will see is some much-needed rain, as the drought continues to grip the area. Highs on Sunday will be in the mid-70s, but as the cold front swings through Sunday night and Monday morning, temperatures will again take a tumble by Monday afternoon, similar to what happened with the last front that passed through a day or so ago.
