Warm for now, storms by midweek

OAK HILL, WV (WOAY) – It has been a much warmer day today around the region, with temperatures close to the normal, a big change from what we saw this past weekend. Lows will not be too far from the highs that we saw over the weekend, generally in the lower 50s.

Mild temperatures are forecast tomorrow as well, with the flow turning southwest ahead of the next front. It will be a breezy and mild day around the region, with highs in the mid-70s. Tomorrow night and Wednesday morning, the showers out ahead of the front arrive, and there could be some thunder as well.
Lows tomorrow night will depend greatly on how much cloud cover we see. I expect that we’ll drop into the middle 50s.
The chance for storms continues through Wednesday afternoon, and the chance for rain into Thursday morning. Some places will see a strong storm or two, but we should avoid any significant severe weather.
The system will deliver some much-needed rainfall to the region. Totals are not expected to be high enough to erase the drought, but as we often say, every drop helps.
After a quiet stretch of weather starting Thursday afternoon, another storm comes into the region from the northwest on Saturday and brings more rain to the area. It’s part of a series of storms that we’ll be tracking as active weather continues. Unfortunately, it will affect our Mother’s Day weekend plans.
By the time the seven-day forecast is done, some areas will see more than 2″ of rainfall over a long enough time period that it will do us some good.
Temperatures will be up and down during the forecast period. Behind the first front, they’ll fall into the upper 50s again, but just like the warmup that began today, the cooldown later this week is only a brief one. Highs by Mother’s Day will be back around 70 degrees.
