Warm and Breezy; Much-Needed Rain Returns Tomorrow

WOAY-TV (Oak Hill, WV): Breezy and mild conditions this morning will continue through the day. Temperatures will eventually reach the mid-70s, making for a warmer afternoon and evening. With the warm temperatures and breezy conditions, there is an elevated fire risk across the region. It will be a nice day to get out and enjoy, but be mindful of disposing items like cigarette butts and avoid burning in any form. Even a small spark from a fire can cause a larger brush fire to develop.

While the warm, dry, and breezy conditions may cause some issues today, rain will return to the forecast late tonight and early tomorrow morning. Showers will not become widespread until tomorrow morning, but a few scattered showers are possible overnight. Meteorologist Christian Boteler has the latest:

Widespread showers and storms return tomorrow morning as a low-pressure system passes through the eastern states. Any storms will be typical for the spring season. We are not expecting severe weather, but be aware of thunderstorm activity so you can stay safe from lightning inside of a building or vehicle. For those curious, severe weather will be well to out south and west both today and tomorrow as the low-pressure system moves through the country.

Rainfall will be beneficial across the region. Between Wednesday and Thursday, most areas will get at least half of an inch with some reaching an inch during this round of rain. Water issues will not be a concern due to how dry it has been during the season. Showers and storms will remain widespread through Thursday afternoon even after the cold front passes. Temperatures will drop around 10 to 15 degrees between Wednesday and Thursday afternoon, bringing us back to below-average temperatures once again. The rain will dissipate Thursday evening, drying up across the region overnight. This multi-day system will bring some relief to our region, but not enough to get us out of the ongoing drought. Even then, this is a small victory in a season that has been exceptionally dry.

Friday will be a dry and mostly sunny day, but cooler temperatures will remain. We will at least get back into the lower 60s, but we will end up a bit below-average to end the week. Isolated showers return on Saturday before drying up in time for Mother’s Day. While the morning will be brisk, the afternoon will be wonderful. This will be wonderful weather for a lunch date before showers start to creep in overnight. More showers and storms will return at the start of next week. Here’s your 7-Day Forecast:
