It’s been a pretty nice day across Southern West Virginia for your Saturday. Sunday won’t be much different with an exception of a few rogue showers/storms that could form, but the big change comes Monday into Tuesday. The Weather Prediction Center and Storm Prediction Center has our area highlighted in some of their risks.
The Weather Prediction Center has our entire area under a Marginal Risk of Excessive Rainfall that could lead to flash flooding. A very moist atmosphere will be in place across Southern West Virginia that could lead to flash flooding. The Storm Prediction Center also has our area in a Marginal Risk (Level 1/5) for severe weather, with damaging winds being the main threat. Most of the day Monday should be a good day with some sunshine before storms look most likely to move through our area late Monday night into Tuesday morning. With Tuesday, a slight risk (Level 2/5) encompasses our area. Models are still in disagreement on exact timing of the storms or if we even see any in our area.
Either way, the European model is pretty confident on some decently heavy rainfall, especially across our northern areas and potentially even further north into some of the areas that recently experienced flash flooding. The Southen Coalfields look to be the area where less rain is possible, but again that’s where the thunderstorms could be more prominent. Depending on how heavy the rain falls, it could accumulate quite a bit to the point where flash flooding is a threat for everyone.
The full 7 day forecast looks amazing after Tuesday! Highs in the upper 70’s and low 80’s with plenty of sunshine leading into next weekend. More rain/storms appear possible on Saturday, but at this point in time it’s a low chance!
