UPDATE: Body recovered at Lake Stephens has been identified

UPDATE: SURVEYOR, WV (WOAY) – A missing swimmer who is suspected of drowning at Lake Stephens has been identified.

According to the Raleigh County Sheriff’s Department, Jaiquann Frazier, 24, of Gauley Bridge, is the victim of the drowning.  Officials were called to the scene at 8:30 pm on Thursday evening.  Crews searched the area by air, water, and on foot, but was unable to locate her last night.  They returned today and divers with the Trap Hill and Bever Fire Department located her at around noon.  Frazier’s body has been sent to the State Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy.

No foul play is suspected.


SURVEYOR, WV (WOAY) – A body was recovered at Lake Stephens on Friday.

Raleigh County Sheriff Scott Van Meter tells WOAY that a body was discovered.   A swimmer went missing on Thursday evening, a search was initiated, but rescue teams were unsuccessful.  When they returned on Friday, the body was discovered.

The Sheriff’s Office believes it was an accidental drowning and is in the process of notifying family.
