Two people charged with counterfeiting in multiple West Virginia Counties

Nicholas County, WV (WOAY) – Two people have been arrested and charged in an alleged multi-county counterfeiting scheme.

31-year-old Zacchaeus S. Barnes of Montgomery, Ala., and 33-year-old Lorsharieria A. Barnes of Tampa, Fla., have been each charged with felony possession of counterfeit currency with intent to utter and conspiracy on Friday, May 16, 2025,

according to a news release from the West Virginia State Police.

A Summersville business alerted troopers to the alleged scheme after receiving a counterfeit $100 bill from two people.

The couple was taken into custody after troopers located their vehicle at a park-and-ride facility near the intersection of U.S. 19 and Interstate 79 in Braxton County.

Investigators found Zacchaeus and Lorsharieria Barnes in possession of several hundred dollars in counterfeit currency, as well as multiple receipts from retail establishments across multiple West Virginia counties.

Zacchaeus Barnes is charged in Braxton, Nicholas and Raleigh counties and his bond is set at $130,000. Lorsharieria Barnes is being held on $90,000 bond from charges in Braxton and Nicholas counties.

Troopers say this is an ongoing investigation with the possibility of additional charges being filed.
