Timing of Likely Weekend Flooding: From Urban and Small Stream to River Flooding

At least 15 dead due to severe flooding in Central Appalachia

WOAY-TV (Oak Hill, WV): The weekend storm will put the icing on the cake for flooding across the region.

Below is a timeline of when to expect flash flooding and river flooding across the region:

SATURDAY: After 6 p.m., poor drainage, creek and stream flooding is expected to get underway across the entire region.

SUNDAY to DAYBREAK MONDAY: 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday is the timeframe when mudslides will likely occur.

6 p.m. to 6 a.m. Monday: Minor flooding likely on the Greenbrier at Buckeye.

Greenbrier at Buckeye flooding impacts:

13 Ft- The low spots below river gage are subject to flooding. Also, 13 feet at Buckeye equates to a 10-foot flood stage at Marlinton which is upstream from Buckeye.

14 Ft- More low spots along the river are flooded. Also, 14 feet at Buckeye equates to a 10-foot flood stage at Marlinton which is upstream from Buckeye.

15 Ft- The farmland along the river bank near gage is flooded. Steven Hole Road starts to flood.

Meadow River at Hines: Moderate flooding likely Sunday afternoon into Monday.

Meadow River at Hines Impacts:

13 Ft- Flooding begins in Meadow Community Park

14 Ft- One lane of Route 60 closed near Charmco.

15 Ft- Water begins to affect some homes along the right bank of the river from Rupert to McRoss.

16 Ft- Route 60 closed near Charmco.

Gauley River at Camden-on-Gauley could see minor flooding Sunday afternoon. Impacts include: At 19 Feet- Homes and buildings on Coon Creek Road and Bridge Street are flooded.

Howard Creek at White Sulphur Springs will likely reach its second highest level in recent time. Below are the historic crests:

MONDAY: 7-11 a.m.: Peak crest will likely reach moderate to major flooding levels for the Greenbrier at Alderson.

Greenbrier River at Alderson Impacts

At 15 feet – Farm land along river bank near gage is flooded.

At 17 feet- Flooding of roads in Alderson and some buildings affected.

At 19 feet – Significant flooding in town of Alderson.

7-11 a.m.: Peak crests in at least the low end of flood stage likely for the Greenbrier River at Hinton. Water levels will likely flood homes on the left bank and downstream from Highway 20 bridge.

New River at Thurmond will likely experience minor flooding Monday. These are the impacts:

16 Ft- Dunglen group camping area and boat ramp floods.

19 Ft- A few homes on WV Route 25 above the Dunglen camping area begin to flood.

Bluestone River near Pipestem will see minor flooding. Impacts include:

At 10 Feet – Flooding occurs in fields and lowlands mainly upstream from the gage.
