BECKLEY, WV (WOAY)- Late Friday night, there was a house fire with flames blazing out of the house up to 50 feet in the air. According to Captain Canterbury with the 3rd avenue station, crews received the call about a fire at 107 Hargrove st. around 12:30 am.
The home is currently unoccupied and the fire department says they have had problems with squatters and fires in vacant structures. Capt. Canterbury says that there was no power to the house, so he doesn’t believe it was caused by electrical issues. However, the investigation is ongoing.
There was no one in the house by the time fire crews arrived on scene. The fire also caught the occupied home next door on fire. Thankfully, there was minimal damage to that home and no one was injured.
Newswatch will update you as we hear more.
