Raleigh County, WV (WOAY) – A Beckley tradition is making a comeback after a one-year hiatus. Now in its 20th year, the Friends of Charity Auto Fair is returning to the Raleigh County Memorial Airport for a weekend of classic car displays, food trucks, and family-friendly activities, all for a great cause.
Jeri Knowlton, Director of Public Relations with Hospice of Southern WV, explains:
“After last year’s cancellation, we are especially grateful for the encouragement and the patience shown by so many people who loved this event. I’m happy to say that the challenges we faced have been addressed,” Knowlton said. “At its heart, this event is much bigger than cars and entertainment. The Friends of Charity exist to support the important work of Hospice of Southern West Virginia and Brian’s Safehouse.”
Hospice of Southern West Virginia provides end of life care and family support across the region. Brian’s Safehouse runs 12-month residential recovery programs to help free people from chemical dependencies. Proceeds from the Auto Fair directly support both of these programs.
Leslie Peace, Communications Director for Brian’s Safehouse explains the importance of the event:
“For Brian’s Safehouse, it is an event that gives us a chance to give back to the community. Our residents see that they’re loved, that they’re valued, that they really have an opportunity to give to others, to the people who support us. I cannot get over how inexpensive it is for a family of four people to come to the Auto Fair. It’s only $5 for Friday or $12 for Friday and Saturday. But that $12 your kids get in free. But all of that money goes to Hospice and the Safehouse.”
The Raleigh County Memorial Airport has the perfect space to host the event, and is glad to give back to the community says Airport Manager, Robert Runion:
“This is very exciting. On behalf of the Raleigh County Airport, we’re excited to give back this year, both organized organizations provide awesome services. We’re just proud to be part of the community, to be able to give back to support to the community.”
The Friends of Charity Auto Fair is scheduled for July 10th and 11th.
