BECKLEY, WV (WOAY)— The WV Collective is hosting its summer theatre camp, “so dramatic.” During this camp, students ages 5 to 12 will perform the show “The Princess’s New Clothes.”
Throughout the 2 weeks, students will learn about all the different aspects of theatre. From the acting, set design, costumes, to everything in between.
“They’re learning about makeup and how to apply makeup,” said Linda Boyd, the Camp director. “We had some really hilarious things happening yesterday when we told them to make themselves into old people and it was hilarious.”
The kids will work together, with their new theatre know-how, to put the show on at St. Stephan’s Episcopal Church. They all had fun as they started to build the show and would encourage their friends to join.
“I would say I’ve been doing theater camp. It is super fun and super awesome and you can go outside at least three times a day,” said Elliott, a student at the camp.
“They should come here and that it’s really fun,” said Saria, a student at the camp.
Even though they’re having fun with all of this, there’s a more important reason to have these camps for our local kids.
“These camps are extremely important. I think these kids need to be exposed to their creative juices. Art is important and theater is art,” explained Boyd. “Art is very important to a community and the kids learning how to express that art and being a safe place and a happy place and make that happen is really important to me.”
